Silicone is used to seal the perimeter joints to ensure wall stays protected, watertight. Silicone also omits the possibility of cracking in the mortar, or glass, providing a 'live' joint to allow for minimal expansion and contraction.

Plastic spacers that vary according to the size of the necessary joint, block thickness and the type of wall (linear or curved): placed between one block and another, they create evenly spaced joints, keeping the framework rod aligned and away from the glass blocks.

Thermal Rated Mortar (Grey)
A grey premixed mortar specially designed specifically for Energy Saving Blocks. Please note: Vetromalta can also be used with Thermally insulated blocks but Thermally insulated mortar is advised.
It is always adviseable to consider the exposure of the Glass Block Wall - The Mortar joints must be protected with a suitable grout for weather exposure, particularly in heavy rainfall areas. Vetromalta is generally considered to be sufficient for grouting externally - however, it may be adviseable to source a specialist grouting product or joint protection to add an extra layer of protection to the mortar joints.

Expansion Foam (10m)
Expansion strips can be either stapled or nailed along the two sides and head between anchors (no strip necessary on the cill). Expansion foam is only needed if wall is going into a four sided opening to allow for movement of the wall due to temperature change.

Glass Block Tie
The Glass Block wall is tied into the frame by use of Glass Block Ties (these become embedded in mortar). Anchors are attached up both jambs (sides) and across the head (top) but not along the cill (bottom). Glass Block Ties are to be placed at each course whilst installing. If the wall is open ended then Glass Block Ties are not required on the open jamb - only thr jamb againt the wall and head (if applicable).
